This is a 12 week trial to determine the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication in patients with painful diabetic neuropathy.

Patients who are eligible:
– are 18 years of age or older
– are diagnosed with Type I or Type II diabetes mellitus
– are suffering from moderate to severe painful diabetic neuropathy (painful feet) of at least six months duration
